Meet the driving force behind Discera Search

a picture of charles spence
Charles Spence leads Discera and is passionate about Clinical Development recruitment. He graduated with a biomedical degree, has worked in hospitals (including translation work in Seoul, South Korea) and also spent years doing research in diabetes. After doing research and travel, a career in business and science felt the most appropriate.

He joined a global search firm specialising in Life Science and trained under 3 of the best life science recruiters globally. One leads the entire EU Client Partnership programme, the other heads a EU Exec Search firm in Life Science and the last is dominating in SF - all very different, all incredibly talented and have taught Charles everything he knows.
From here Charles was in the global top 15 best recruiters in 2019 and again in 2022 (company size of 700 and 1000). He has won numerous awards for his work (Best Manager, Biggest Individual Deal Size, Company Recognition Award, Rolex, Paid education trips across the US).

In 2023, Charles decided to launch his own firm - Discera Search. A firm committed to solving the biggest talent needs of Early clinical stage SME biotechs in the east coast and DACH.

Discera comes from the latin word “To learn” and this is what Charles is most passionate about - learning Languages (3 languages so far), learning cultures and most importantly learning more about the incredible new medicines through the clients he works with.
